Things to do in Mid Devon

DevonIf you come for a break staying with us here at our cosy and friendly pub with its award-winning rooms, hospitality and food, once restrictions have lifted, then here are a few things you can do in Mid Devon.

Picture postcard

Our area is well-known for its rolling hills and picture postcard country lanes. Bampton is close to the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Exmoor National Park. We have 11 wonderful rivers nearby too including the Culm, Creedy, Exe and Yeo.

Grand Western Canal

Mid Devon is also home to the Grand Western Canal Country Park and an accompanying nature reserve that stretches more than 11 miles. It features Tiverton Canal Company, which uses one of the last horse-drawn barges in the country. The canal is also a haven of activity for those wishing to canoe, row, fish, cycle and walk.

Horse-drawn barge

The horse-drawn barge operates trips from Easter to mid-October, for a timetable please visit the Tiverton Canal Company website here.

You’ll be spoilt for choice for things to do in Mid Devon, whether you’re wanting to spend down time with family and friends or to make some special memories with your children.

It’s also the perfect location for a romantic, or active, outdoorsy, weekend away with your partner or as a location to celebrate your anniversary or birthdays.

Wooded valleys

We’re surrounded by wonderful scenery from wooded valleys to open, rugged and windswept moors. If you want to get back to nature or simply chill out walking your dog, then this is the place to come.

You can even come for your very own nature watch and see badgers up close in their setts. Find out how they interact with each other with a guide from Devon Badger Watch.

Birds of prey

Meanwhile, Yarak Birds of Prey is worth a visit or Bradninch nature reserve if you’re keen on our feathered friends and bird watching.

Exeter – history & shopping

If you’re keen on history or wish to explore a city, then we’re less than 30-minute drive from Exeter, which has a wonderful, historic and pretty cathedral complete with a close surrounded by shops, restaurants and cafés.

Exeter also has a fabulous shopping centre and areas with artisan food, clothing and gift shops too.

Break

Whatever you enjoy doing, Mid Devon has it all and Bampton is a perfect place to explore the area from, so why not book in for a break with us this year once restrictions have lifted? You can book online or give us a call here.
