We’re supporting the Burnt Chef Project

The Burnt Chef Project

We’re proud to be supporting Kris Hall’s Burnt Chef Project. It aims to increase awareness and create conversation regarding mental health issues in the hospitality trade.

Kris set up the project in May 2019. As well as awareness, Kris also hopes to fund training through registered charities, such as Dorset Mind, Kelly’s Cause and Mind, to normalise conversation.

Hospitality workers are statistically more likely to experience some form of mental health issue at some stage in their careers.

The unwritten rule book or ‘badge of honour’ in hospitality can mean mental health is not often a topic of conversation.

One in ten hospitality staff have received training to support health and wellbeing, access to mentoring, health champions or mental health first aiders.

Kris aims to fund industry professionals who wish to take the step in supporting their colleagues. Turning them into a Burnt Chef Ambassador or peer-to-peer supporter.

He hopes to have at least two Burnt Chef Ambassadors in each restaurant, pub and hotel in the country. This means no matter where anyone works, they’ll know that the topic of mental health is no longer taboo.

We’re helping to spread the word about the Burnt Chef Project and you can find out more information at www.instagram.com/theburntchefproject/.
